Another Song, Another Season

These past few days have been miserable, rainy and cold, but the worst is being stuck at home.  The walls of this little house seem a lot closer together each day.  As much as I hate it, I feel tucked away.  Being tucked away safe and alone and yet the being alone leaves a wide open door for my heart and mind to wander astray.

Luckily, my insanity is broken with moments of profound thought or a song that sticks to me like glue. The past couple days, the song has been "Before the Throne of God Above."

I can't tell you where I heard this the first time, but the words have settled into my heart.  The music fits like an old shirt that you can't ever throw out.   And, it fell into me at a perfect time.

Having tried to explain why this song means so much right now might just be more difficult than I had previously thought it to be.  Maybe the unspoken is a stronger statement than any words I could lay before you.

I could readily admit to all of the sin I have been embracing on a daily basis and happily so.  I could tell you that I feel millions of miles away from God at the moment.  I could tell you that my life is silently in an upheaval which only those closest to me see right now.  I could tell you that loneliness has settled deep into my soul and I am living in a self induced drought.  I could tell you that little in life has much meaning to me and that I constantly question if my life has any value.

Would you really care even if I did tell you all of that?  I'm not asking if you would have empathy for me and where I am in life.  But more so, would you care enough to step in, walk beside, not allow even the most persistent resistance to pull you away from the goal?

Maybe you would, maybe you wouldn't.  Most wouldn't want to jump into the depths of the deep dark hole which isn't your own, crawling out one step at a time.  But this song, it tells me who would.

Now, if I could find a way to tear down the wall which stands tall and strong between me and the one who can.

Before the throne of God above

I have a strong, a perfect plea

A great high Priest whose Name is Love

Who ever lives and pleads for me

My name is graven on His hands

My name is written on His heart

I know that while in heaven He stands

No tongue can bid me thence depart

No tongue can bid me thence depart

When Satan tempts me to despair

And tells me of the guilt within

Upward I look and see Him there

Who made an end to all my sin

Because the sinless Savior died

My sinful soul is counted free

For God the just is satisfied

To look on Him and pardon me

To look on Him and pardon me

Behold Him there the risen Lamb

My perfect spotless righteousness

The great unchangeable I am

The King of glory and of grace

One with Himself I cannot die

My soul is purchased by His blood

My life is hid with Christ on high

With Christ my Savior and my God!

With Christ my Savior and my God!

One with Himself I cannot die

My soul is purchased by His blood

My life is hid with Christ on high

With Christ my Savior and my God!

With Christ my Savior and my God!
