After a much needed full nights sleep, I made my first attempt at waking two pre-teens up before 8 am. For being the first day, it wasn't too bad. Lucky for me they were satisfied with pop tarts on the way to their first day of Vacation Bible School.
If you've read any of my past posts, you probably know this is my neice and nephews first experience with VBS. They had plenty of questions, but were willing to give it a try. I picked them up and got to hear all about the fun they had, especially with water games.
We met a friend for lunch and the kids got their first experience with Costa Vida and the multi-functional pop machine. There are just too many flavors a kid can come up with when they have 100's of choices.
After lunch, we met some friends for laser tag. There's nothing like being encouraged to shoot at other people that gets kids all sorts of hyped up, especially boys. Laser tag was definitely a success.
We took the friends for ice cream, another round of cup of many flavors pop and then back home for a boys vs. girls round of Just Dance and Mario Kart on the Wii.
To finish out our night, we had dinner at another friend's house. The kids were self-entertained for hours by the old-school style video games, sports games, movies and personal driving range.
I was so thankful for a few hours to have them entertained and for adult conversation.
Tuesday brought day #2 for VBS. The kids did great, again. I might have used a little bribery to get them up a little faster. After stopping at McDonalds for breakfast, we were off.
After VBS, they shared with me that their snack of the day was a blue jello heart with whipped cream and a strawberry. My niece shared that the blue heart was because people were sad and the red heart was because God loves us. Ok, so she might not have gotten all the details, but it was music to my ears.
We headed to Chuck E Cheeses for pizza and games. What a deal! $40 for 1 pizza, 1 salad and enough tokens to last all of 30 minutes for two kids. Not to mention, for all their effort, we ended up with an inflatable mini guitar, a rainbow plastic slinky, 2 sweet tarts, 2 boxes of mini nerds and 1 prickly pencil topper. No matter how you lay it out, that place is just a rip off. And the pizza ain't that great either!
The kids were quiet, not even bickering, so I knew a nap was in the near future for all of us. I definitely needed it. Evidently, my nephew needed it too. He slept over 5 hours and was difficult to rise for dinner.
While my nephew slept, I got some fun one on one time with my niece. We grocery shopped first, then made dinner. She helped make fried chicken strips and pickles. To date, I think this might be my favorite part of their time here. It was so much fun having girl time with her.
